Library helps setting up the Reconcile Kenya Information Center

In the context of fulfilling the UN Library in Nairobi’s mandate “information for development…”, and in line with capacity building initiative of the library, the library donated several publications dealing with environment to Reconcile Kenya. Resource Conflict Institute (RECONCILE) is a regional policy research and advocacy NGO registered in Kenya and implementing programmes in Kenya. RECONCILE is a regional Policy Research organization based in Nakuru-Kenya. It conducts research in environment and natural resource conflicts. Previously RECONCILE conducted its studies on pastoralism, agriculture, forestry and fisheries -- all these are pegged on land hence land right is the bottom line. The institute presently is focusing its attention on pastoral land rights and conflicts over pastoral resources in East Africa. For more of their information click http://www.reconcile-ea.org/.

The materials are primarily to assist in setting up an environmental law information center. The information center will enable the local community to be aware of the environment matters in Kenya and the legislation that governs them.

The NGO also benefited from library's expertise in using WINISIS library software to be used for indexing, classification and storage of bibliographic data and also make it searchable.
