The Library manages on-site guided tours of
the United Nations Offices at Nairobi.
The objectives of the guided tours programme :
- To disseminate information about the work and achievements
of the United Nations and the UN Agencies to the general
public.
- To open up the United Nations Complex at Gigiri to members
of the public.
- To develop positive attitudes/perceptions about the work
of the United Nations and the UN Agencies to the general
public.
- To act as a direct link for the visitors to the UN, providing
them with insight and knowledge into the functions and activities
of the UN and the UN Agencies.
Target groups
The UN guided tours targets tourists, delegates, local community,
schools, colleges and universities as well as the general
public. Tours include children from 10 years and above.
Organization of the Guided Tours programme
- Hours and days
The guided tours of the UN-Gigiri are conducted five days
a week Mondays - Thursday between 9:30a.m. 4.00 p.m. and
Friday 9.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. Group visits last from 2
hours to 5 hours.
- Requests
Requests should be made a minimum of a week in advance.
- Reservations
Reservations are required for 5 or more persons. The visitors
to make reservations for the tours in advance through the
UN Library.
- Programmes
Programmes for the groups are arranged according to their
areas of interest to include briefings by various staff
members. Most if not all request are to learn about UN and
UN Agencies functions, activities and achievements.
- Languages
English is mainly used, except when there is a request for
another language.
- Free publications/posters
The visitors are usually given free publications (UNEP,
UN and other UN Agencies). Publication kits are mostly given
to large groups to take back to their institutions.
- Security
Security Unit will always be notified notified of the visits
and the names of the visitors (except school pupils) afew
days in advance before the groups come.

- Various Gifts i.e. paintings from China, Pope's gift
in the UN Library,
- Index finger from Chile
