The United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) and
the Sergio Vieira de Mello United Nations Library have jointly compiled
an information brochure with an aim of publicizing and raising awareness
of their various functions and services they provide.
The brochure highlights the importance of UNIC as a key component
of supporting media within the UN fraternity in Nairobi. UNIC offers
advice and support in designing information strategies and disseminating
timely information to the press and public. It also gives details
of the activities that UNIC organizes and actively participates.
e.g. Model United Nations, prompting awareness of the UN Millennium
Development Goals in Kenya, organizing UN in Kenya person of the
year among many other activities.
The brochure also highlights the role of the Sergio Vieira de Mello
UN Library as a resource for developing and maintaining a collection
of print and online information on UN-related issues which assists
the UN staff and outside users to analyze trends, assess issues
and promote activities related to sustainable development. Also
the various services offered in the library such as knowledge management,
access to online information, capacity building and guided tours
are outlined in detail in the brochure.
